Spot of Sublime

I love the sound of the water while it drips from the ore's between strokes and how a sudden cease of  rowing leaves one it absolute silence as the boat gently drifts along splitting the waters surface. I could spend forever leaning over the cuddy  peering down into the water either watching the bottom waiting for something to dart clear of the bow or just study the stones placing them to memory.

It was a great day today. The new dory or the Newfie Floater as we so affectionately call her went on her first voyage. A short row of maybe a mile then a small winding brook for another. Literally thousands of small brookies lined the grass banks like nothing I have ever seen. Moving quickly just ahead of the boat would be schools of a hundred or more brook trout pushing up into balls along the small cutouts that line the streams edge, it is truly a sublime sight in every way.

There were no fishing poles or bait on this trip, you see the season is still closed but no reason why a camera couldn't provide a little fun. We poled our way through the bogs until the blandish still dormant grasses colored from the winter cold passed us by and the marsh lands turned to thick droves of spruce tangled so tightly they barely show the green and red of the the sphagnum carpet below.  A opening produced a fallen fir tree uprooted by last years hurricane that made a fine spot to take it all in before our return trip up stream.

Theirs two of us  at this point pushing against the current working the dory through the tight bends and over the bits of old dam and rocks. I begin  to think twice about my bright idea to go with the flow eariler but you got to know what it's like to be dieing inside having to see what is around the next bend. The pushing continues to become harder and we have to lighten the load so it's out with the dog and off with the coats.

Finally we reach the pond dripping sweat but satisfied the dory held her own we found the end of a great day on the water fishing or none.Tight lines...FishinDan
