Facebook is full of all kinds of groups and pages so lets be clear some of them either lack solid content, feel like a scam or pollute your wall with nuisance links until you enviably block them for good.
The NEW Salmon and Trout Restoration Association of Conception Bay Central Inc. fan page is different and requires very little from it's visitors. First before I tell you how you can help allow me introduce you to Stracc and share with you some of what they do.
Salmon and Trout Restoration Association of Conception Bay Central Inc. or Stracc for short consists of a group of dedicated men and women poised on restoring freshwater habitats including wetlands, ponds, rivers and brooks. Stracc also plants trees along with aquatic plants and removes debris/man made problems.
The mission statement is as follows:
STRACC strives to protect, preserve, and enhance Atlantic Salmon, Trout and Habitat We will conserve and restore Atlantic Salmon and Trout through strategically focused efforts, where people and resources work together to achieve healthy, sustainable, and naturally diverse stocks and habitats. Through education, scientific study, public awareness campaigns, lobbying governments, and businesses we will ensure that this resource will be enjoyed by future generations.
Stracc was founded in 2009 and has achieved many great things in a short time. Conducting river clean ups and building a beautiful walking trail on the Colliers river was their beginnings but quickly Stracc began to grow and become involved in some really awesome projects.
Stracc in currently readying a summer work force to build outdoor classrooms smack on the salmon rivers to educate and inform our young and general public about thee importance of protecting our stocks.
That's not all Stracc has planed for this summer. A new HD camera is to be installed to count salmon and yours truly has been asked to monitor the camera and upload the video. It will also involve me spending some time in Holyrood fishing for big browns and of coarse my favorite atlantic salmon.
Stracc's short time hasn't gone unnoticed. Already Stracc has won Newfoundlands most prestigious award for conservation. The photo shows SAEN President presenting STRACC members with the 2010 Guenter Behr Award for conservation/education work done on salmon and trout habitats.
